How can I help my students to invest in their writing and care whether their message has been understood, while facilitating effective academic writing and thinking strategies and minimizing formal assessments?
Jen, I have had good results with using the writer's group, or writing partners. For my students, creating that audience helps them to invest. It's easy to slough off negative feedback that a teacher has written in the margins. It's harder to do that when a reader is right there sharing their reaction.
You might want to start by reading Peter Elbow's Writing Without Teachers. I think I have a copy in the classroom.
Can I have a copy of whatever you produce when you are done?
ReplyDeleteOf course.
