Marissa's Burning Question Update
My burning question is "How do I create a writing/creative centered life for myself that is financially sustainable?" I know that it is possible. I know that I am going to have to push myself out of my comfort zones in ways I have not before. I know I am going to have to take risks. I know I am going to have to take very good care of myself because I am going to have many early mornings and many late nights to make this happen. I know from the comments I have seen on my blog and the support I am getting from this amazing group of people that I will not be alone. I know I need a plan, a coach and to get organized and be relentless until I am where I want to be. Next step- the grand plan.

Grand plan indeed! Let us help you with that :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to see what you come up with! What do you think the first step towards the grand plan is?

Tell him who you are and that I sent you. He will make time for you; he is amazing and useful.
I'm so excited to see where you will go. It gives me inspiration to try to take risks myself!
ReplyDeleteI'm rambling a bit here, but hopefully you can gain something from this. par our discussions- I would really love to read and use in my classroom something that you have written about being black, because there is not a generic 'black experience", as you mentioned. Hearing you talk about the perceptions of the your (discourse) communities, the various ways people define you and how you define yourself- that would be something that could be used as a teaching tool. What you have mentioned is so much about identity and completely ties into the discussion we had yesterday in class- bringing in the identities and cultural experiences for literacy as school knowledge. As a teacher, I want to be educated and sensitive to this. You could create a book list (I could totally help with ones that I use in my classroom that vary from just having a main character who is black to ones that have historical relevance) that you could use as an appendix for your "curriculum". There are a lot of easy self-publishing things out there, not just Teachers Pay Teachers. But you will have a lot of the buzz words after this class in order to be able to market this type of project while you also work on your creative pursuits.
ReplyDeleteApproaching passions as a business and thinking outside the box are my favorite conversations. I've owned two successful businesses (one was a physical location and the other was virtual) and can help brainstorm revenue streams, if you're interested.
ReplyDeleteThe more I hear your writings and listen to you speaking, I want to read 'Marissa or Mimi: Which one do you want to talk to' a memoir I've read a lot of memoirs recently and not a lot of them show the refection and the journey with the original voice and lyricism that your shorts stories based around your life growing up have reflected. Again, not a long term goal.
