Kelley's Burning Question Progress
I spoke with our local reading specialist, Ellie, who gave me some great ideas for programs that I have not yet tried. I researched them online, selected a few examples, and used them with the student I am tutoring. He seemed to enjoy them, so I will continue including these new tools as practices in our literacy events. Progress will be evaluated after a few more sessions.

I am so glad that you were able to find some resources that worked with your student.
ReplyDeleteKelley, one of the things I'm researching for one of my tutees is reading strategies for him, and he is a kinesthestic learner. In doing some quick searches yesterday, I found a LOT of information to help students read in 'alternative' ways, ways that speak to their learning style. Maybe you have already covered this and incorporate this, but it always, always helps me to research how to incorporate learning strategies to speak to varied learning styles.
ReplyDeleteAre you are covering topics that he is totally interested and invested in? Is he already motivated or is he discouraged? I have a lot of kids who are on the cusp of reading, but have been so discouraged by past practices and instruction that they've given up. It is worth knowing his input and feelings about reading and writing while you both figure what will work for him together.
